We agree!Too many of us are buying or adopting working dogs or dogs for aesthetic and status reasons, while not knowing what to do with them on a daily basis.Too many of these dogs are bored and frustrated as they are expected to be couch potatoes or be happy with staying home alone, sometimes locked up or crated, for 8-10 hours a day with lots of toys.Too many on these dogs are then acting out via excessive behaviours - barking, digging holes, chewing furniture, while some are jumping the walls and running away.Too many dogs are abandoned to fend for themselves or end up in a shelter because they are 'too much' for their families.Too many dogs are put to sleep because of 'behaviourial' issues when the truth is that we just don't understand what they need.Do the same amount of research on the breed you want as you would researching the car you want...Remember that form follows function, so a herding, guarding, retrieving or hunting dog would need to spend the main parts of their day engaging in activities that satisfy those genetic needs. Don't choose a breed because of something you saw in a movie or on TV...understand the history of that breed and then you will get an idea of what dog needs in his daily life. ... See MoreSee Less
Olivia Newton-John has always used animals as an outlet. Her childhood dream before singing was to become a veterinarian. Newton-John: “Since I was a child. We lived in a university and my father was a professor, and I used to rescue them all the time. And my mother said I was always bringing home strays. Stray dogs, stray cats, and I remember as a little girl, seeing a guy being abusive to a horse with a cart, and I went up and grabbed the reins and yelled at him… I must have been under 10. So, yeah… I always adored them.”We were very sad to hear of Olivia’s passing this week. We’ve lost an animal advocate. Her cancer center has a program where therapy dogs come in to give the patients some sense of home. She will be greatly missed. Please donate today in the name of Olivia. ... See MoreSee Less

Sugar is settling in very well. She is just as sweet as her name. At not quite a year old, she still has all that puppy energy, but also likes to snuggle up when she is done playing. She is going to need a home with a fenced-in back yard, because she is a RUNNER! Sugar is also diabetic and requires consistency in her feeding schedule and insulin shots daily. She is super soft - definitely a non-shedder (hypoallergenic). Dog and kid friendly.www.pupandcatco.com... See MoreSee Less
Xena girl is ready for adoption!!Xena is an amazingly sweet and gentle girl who has stolen a piece of our hearts! Xena is a Staffordshire Terrier mix approximately about 3 years old spayed female weighing about 70lbs, who has had a rough life. Xena appears to have had limited human contact and was used for breeding purposes. She now knows to sit and shake on command and walks great on a loose leash for the most part. She LOVES car rides, but we’re not sure why as she just sleeps, but is always up to travel. Xena would do the best in a home with a 4 ft or higher fence with no other pets. This is because she does have a high prey drive, though has NEVER bit anything. She is extremely strong so a sturdy fence will be required as when she wants to chase something she goes hard at it (but once again does not offer to hurt anything). A big yard is not required as she doesn’t really play with toys other than chewing a bone and prefers to go outside to potty and come right back in. Speaking of which, my girl is pretty good at potty training with only an accident here and there (she is alone a lot because of my schedule, so my fault not hers) and she does not require a crate as she is no chew and just sleeps, she is also a big girl, and we haven’t tried her in crate. The no other pets is for now as she seems extremely interested in all other animals and some animals are not taking to kindly to that much “love”. We will do dog introductions this week, but she is perfectly fine as an only furbaby. Xena is a couch potato and isn’t overly active. A walk around a neighborhood would be all this baby requires (but don’t forget how strong she is). She walks amazing on a loose leash until she sees something, but is doing great with redirection to go back to a loose leash.Xena is a quiet girl with only doing a low bark to go outside, otherwise doesn’t make a peep unless snoring. Xena is a low maintenance dog that absolutely just loves being around people of all ages!! She is a HUUGE people pleaser! If this sounds like a home you can provide, please pm us for more information.Adopt at www.pupandcatco.com/adopt. If you are not the right home, please share to get this girl the home she deserves! #pupandcatco#adoptdontshop#fosteringsaveslives#fureverhomeneeded#dontbullymybreed... See MoreSee Less
